I have a 2013. Yeah you don't have to do the maintenance if you don't won't to but if you don't, it will void the warranty. If it is an automatic tdi call your dealer and ask for a quote on the 40k service. You won't believe your ears with what they come back with

Void the warranty??? I'm not questioning you, but since when does not doing regular maintenance void a warranty. I've never heard something like that before. Is VW the only manufacturer that has this policy? I never did all the recommended maintenance on my 2 Hondas and never had a warranty issue.
