I would bet what Trump said offended less than 1% of NASCAR fans and probably made the other 99% get a good old fashioned American erection so why would sponsors give a shite?

You are missing the point.
Brian France is making a statement against the Confederate flag and NASCAR having any official affiliation with it. NBC dropped Trump for not being politically correct and the original posters point was that NBC starts broadcasting NASCAR this weekend and there is a correlation.
My point is in addition to NBC, France doesn't want to piss off any of the sponsors.
It is only a matter of time before major companies start putting in their opinions on the confederate flag issue or some other perceived injustice. IMO it won't be long before some major company says that they will stop doing business in or with certain places. For example a company saying that they will stop doing business in South Carolina until the Confederate flag is removed.
