Have you read much of Asimov's other work? I like how his robot books connect through to his Empire books through to his Foundation books. It takes you through all the social changes that Asimov saw given a certain set of given restraints. Then after finishing them all going back to read The End of Eternity is pretty cool to see how it all gets started in a time travel story. The End of Eternity is probably his best fiction novel imo. Also, the short stories Nightfall and The Last Question are worth looking into. The Last Question was supposed to be Asimov's personal favorite story that he wrote.
