Yes...you linked a couple of websites. Metal Storm's genre categorization is not very consistent with most other publications, and List Challenges are hardly classifies as a worthy source in regards to metal.

I'm not saying that thrash cannot be a diverse-sounding genre, because certain thrash bands sound like souped up Motorhead clones and others border on progressive or power metal, but there comes a time when a band's sound manages to transcend a specific genre (e.g. Metallica on the Black Album was not really much of a thrash band) and consequently the band has adopted or created a new sound altogether.
