That would suck carrying such a big tag, they should be much smaller for a trout. That tag is like the size of a marlin tag.

No, tags for marlin, sailfish, and swordfish are much larger and are designed to be intramuscular tags.
The small tag you see in the OP's trout is dart tag that has a small barb locked in between the fishes pterygiophores.
In any case, the tags are designed to be very light weight and when applied properly do not interfere with the fishes normal movement.
