Why a speargun and not something easier and faster like a Hawaiian sling (I've never done this, just a question)?

2nd this. I also carry a knife now on my ankle. My tshirt got hung up on a root underwater and I freaked out for a sec. My shirt ripped and I was able to get to the surface to get air. If I had a knife, I would have been able to cut the shirt so I could get air. Never dive alone.

You need something extremely compact. Bootlegger and I have shot fish together on numerous occasions. It's a hell of a good time but you need to go with a group of people. I personally suck at finding fish, but some of the guys I dive with can put 200 pounds of fish in the boat with quickness.
