Helping others...
I've seen people with the same issue and have been in the same position myself. It wasn't until we started helping others, giving back/giving more than you take, that we started filling that hole. I have tried filling that hole with sex, alcohol, drugs, partying and materialistic stuff. It wasn't until I started helping people in need that I found joy in life.
I have not had kids yet but I am married. People tell you to do what makes you happy and they are somewhat right but there is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is a temporary feeing to something that just happened. It will come and go and is based on your current condition. Joy on the other hand is a lasting state of mind. It's something you'll have to work for to achieve and maintain. It is present regardless of the situation. I guess it could also fall under being content with who you are and etc.
That's just my 2 cents. Good luck bud.
