TV Speaker for Elderly/Hearing Impaired

My grandfather has a flat panel TV in his bedroom which he is having trouble hearing. He has requested for father's day that we get him a speaker for his end table close to him that will help him hear his TV better. He has basic cable only, no cable box. Any recommendations for the best, affordable way to achieve this without purchasing a receiver or any other fancy equipment. He needs something plain and simple, easy to operate.

Computer speakers and a RCA to headphone jack adapter from ebay. You can buy inexpensive speakers or get him some Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 if he likes that bass
I have the Klipsch hooked up to my sony flat panel in my office and can control the volume using the regular directv remote. Just plug the rca plugs into the tv's audio out.

Great tips, thanks. Bluetooth is kind of what I had in mind.
