Although LSU-committed pitcher Cole McKay said this week he planned to honor his pledge to the school, the Detroit Tigers picked the 6-foot-5 right-hander from Spring Branch, Texas, in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

McKay had been thought of as a possible first-day pick in the three-day, 40-round draft that will conclude Wednesday. The Tigers took him with the No. 910 overall pick.

Baseball America listed McKay as the No. 96 prospect before the draft, where he would have held a signing bonus slot value in the $600,000 range. McKay said the chance to work with LSU coaches, including pitching coach Alan Dunn, was the final deciding factor for him.
