If you can pull it off an drop the kid with grandparents, do it. You and the wife need that time away.

Until recently we lived on the west coast with very little family interaction between my daughter and our families. She would ave major anxiety when family came out to visit b/c they were essentially strangers. It would take 2 or 3 days before she would warm up and interact with them without my wife or I being nearby.

Invest that time early on with your family so both the kid and whomever you leave them with is comfortable or you will regret it later.

My daughter has never spend a night away from us and she will be 3 in July.

We do still vacation but the kid comes with us and we don't go to the same destinations we did before the kid.
