Pull out light kit part. There is a current limiter in them now. They are standard for high efficiency on the light kits. Mine gave me trouble and kept blowing light bulbs and not working anymore. I cut them out now and bypass them. They are a little black box.
If that's not it and its a fan at the camp that's never used there could be corrosion on the contactors from humidity and none use. Next time the switch is on and it won't spin, see if you can jump start by spinning fan blades by hand. If you can you have some wear on the bearings that can not be overcome by the motor. New fan time.
Get a cheap for camps. Sitting up kills them.
