This was from a similarly themed event last fall that was done right.
9 Louisiana breweries each brought 2 beers, a regular/seasonal offering and a specialty/one-time brew. The owners/brewers were there to talk about their beer. You got a 5oz tasting glass and a punchcard for the 18 samples you could get. Food and swag was included, but no strippers. $45 all inclusive and it was a great event that was done right. There were virtually no lines and everyone got plenty of beer.
Pelican House had an opportunity to do something very similar. They could have done a tasting glass and a sample from each of the 12 breweries that was there for $30. Then they could also allow you to purchase bigger pours of the same beer a la carte at regular prices.
It's not rocket science to figure out how to put on a good event that will earn you future goodwill and turn a profit at a time of day that's typically non-peak hours. Truly, how many people visit PH from 3-6 on a Saturday? Instead, they managed to screw it up and piss off a lot of people in the process. I know several couples who got sitters for their kids, spent $60 to walk in the door, then had to buy overpriced pints that they weren't expecting to. They spent well over $100 that they could have used on a nice meal out somewhere, and now they won't ever go back to PH.
That's the reality of it.
