Without a DIPJ the prosthesis wouldn't add function. It would actually make it harder to use the hand.

It's not actually, there are huge charitable organizations solely for this sort of thing ...Large community of folks designing and printing prosthetics for kids all across the world...amazing organization...

What I hoped to be able to find for him is 2 solutions ... a cheap 3d printed solution to let him try and see if it improved certain tasks for him ... Then of course some sort of cosmetic solution to use as needed ... As the poster above so kindly pointed out, most of the medical solutions though are not worth it.
