How could the 1st 2 episodes of this season be so lame and the last 2 so epic?

I hated this episode. It was so damn depressing, even for Mad Men. I really wanted Don to wreck shop at McCann and prove his worth. There are only two episodes left and I don't know what the hell is going on.
