The only way I could see it being done is if Ned was put in a position to have to do it. He wouldn't just do it out of the good of his heart and Cat wouldn't let it get done for that reason either. Ned would have to be put in a corner having to protect someone.

Obviously, the theory goes, Ned had to claim him as a bastard to protect him - he was blood, but not Ned's son. If he had told, anyone, Jon, Cat, anyone, it would have broken his oath AND put Jon at risk.

But, if R+L does not = J at the end, it will be the biggest juke/feint in the entire series. That's how sure I am.
