As I read the negative reviews on IMDB they're upset that the story:

- is not true to the Bible account. (I say most of it IS Bible-based, including the rock giants, but the Bible story is very sparse and far too familiar to make a compelling movie. The point here was to make a more interesting allegory than what's contained in the Bible, and it succeeds.)

- Noah's character is inconsistent. (I say that's what happens with humans who are tasked with something unprecedented and terrifying, and thus conflicted. Crowe was very good.)

- Rock monsters, really? (I say they were more convincing and interesting than the computer robots in Interstellar. And this is ALLEGORY, remember. Do these same people object to monsters in Lord of the Rings?)

I say one of the best movies of 2014.
