Yeah it's smarter for the players (at least money wise) to play in Europe, but for teams I think this is better. We had to give up rights to Young for him to go over there. We could have just stashed him over here and still had the ability to call him up in the event of injuries or if he starts ballin out without having to buyout a contract.

Interesting point. Is the NBA looking to make the Euro League obsolete? If so they will need to do what your saying and up the pay for those players. But that will probably take a TV deal, which is possible.
I think the biggest advantage of growing the D league is how it will expand the fandom of the game to cities that don't usually experience it (albeit a much lesser product). Same thing as MLB and their system. Really helps to build a fan base outside of that teams geography.
