planted a few 2 years ago. They did well, they are from 3' to over 6' tall now. Well this yr every single one put on leaves at the bottom of the trunk, about 8-12" from the ground! No single leaves at top of the trees. I have some with 5 foot of bare trunk from the top to about a foot from the base. Any ideas?

You must have planted it upside down...

The question should be do you have worms with it? Those are great for fishing.

Did the top have any blooms before the last freeze?

can you tell if these trees were grafted?....sounds to me like the top died and the native rootstock sprouted out just below the graft....
