When I hear Ronnie Rantz say that Stevenson is probably the best defensive outfielder in college baseball I cringe. There is no doubt he can chase down fly balls with the best. However, he has what is known as a "poor" arm. Not average, but poor. Mechanics are terrible.

That is why Alabama challenged him from deep short stop. They played the odds and came up short.

It is really a shame because you cannot develop a good or great arm. You either have one or you don't.

You do not see ANY major league outfielders without at least good arms. A major handicap for him attaining the next level.

He's the best defensive player in range and ability to catch outs.. His talent here is so great it's even more valuable than some guy with an arm.. His arm in scarf has not been a hinder to LSU in any way. Would take this type of defender over a slower guy with an absolute arm. why does this make you cringe? Stevenson has made more plays out there recording outs than some guy with a great arm. The great arm guy establishes a rep and no one will even try to test..which means teams stay conservative and have more opportunity to score by being conservative.. whereas Stevenson records the outs immediately.. He's made so many highlight plays out there this season he is absolutely worthy of such praise.

Also, it's still a bang bang play.. With all the momentum.. It still takes an absolute accurate throw and the tag has to be incredibly quick. As I said earlier they are the home team.. It was the right decision. We held our guy earlier in the game at third with one out and we failed to get him in with a productive out. Neither team was scoring or even making productive outs.. This was an opportunity worth taking at this point. Especially considering they'll still have last AB
