Tell me about that. I think the real time aspect was probably pretty cool for the time. There are a lot of escort quests, but you can make the guy wait in a corner on the other side of the map, and then just go tell him to follow again once you kill everyone so it's not nearly as frustrating as some other games are.
Was it just the dynamic interaction aspect? It is pretty crappy for whatever they were trying to do. People don't remember you much, conversations don't really change. If you want to get married, you just push the flirt interaction six times in a row and give them a ring. It's retardedly simple, but whatever. Is that basically what they promised and didn't deliver on - the dynamic town aspect?
I don't quite understand how all the renown and boasting works, but I've still done well with it. It's all maxed out - I'm "good". I'd rather complete the quests than try to figure that out, so I'm glad I don't have to.
