quote:
1) His goal the entire movie is to make it back to Earth to see his children, but primarily his daughter because he left on bad terms. When he finally reunites with his daughter at the end, he shares a wonderful but brief moment with her. Then she says something like, "A parent shouldn't watch their child die. My family is here with me. I'm in peace. Go find Brand. She needs you."
Well, that was their closure. He didn't need to stay there and watch her die. He sacrificed the relationship with his daughter to save mankind, and she forgave him for it. That's really all that needed to be said, and Cooper sitting on his arse for the rest of his life does nothing for him. He'd rather continue being a pioneer and find Brand. All they needed was closure, and staying by her death bed would make him loom with regret despite making the right decision.
