Hydroplaned on 20 once outside of Birmingham. That feeling as you begin to lose all control is a pretty terrifying one.

This happened one Christmas Eve back around 98-99. We were coming home from my MIL's house just south of B'ham in my wife's Grand Cherokee. We were on I-59 north coming through downtown B'ham and the roads were starting to ice (the interstate is elevated through downtown). We'd just got to the exit for the Civic Center and it had got bad enough that I knew we had to get down on ground level. The exit ramp on the north bound there is one of those that does a semicircle. Soon as I hit the ramp I realized it was a solid sheet of ice. Scared the hell out of me but somehow we just glided right down the middle of the ramp and hit the street which thankfully was not iced over yet. We still had quite an adventure making it home that night, having to turn around twice and take alternate routes when we got to iced over bridges that had been closed.
