Yes there is a huge difference, although the NASL party line is that there isn't. NASL may come into some trouble here in the next few years with MLS teaming up with USL. NASL's DII status may be in danger of slipping to DIII.

eta: I know some guys that made the Armada here in Jax. All are great players but not elite in any way. Some are in their mid 30's and couldn't make a squad or couldn't hack it in MLS 10-15 years ago when they were younger and the MLS wasn't as good as it is now.

Essentially just think about it--if they could be on an MLS roster, making the MLS minimum, they would (because it's more money). So, the gap in talent between even the best NASL players and worst MLS players is at least there. There are a few guys, naturally, who might be slightly better than the worst MLS guys--but that's it. So yes, it's a lower level.

With that said, level of soccer doesn't determine how fun it is. League of Ireland is one of my favorite leagues and it definitely isnt the best stuff on fare.
