I'm 75% through with it. I've asked the same questions and this is the best answer I've gotten:

The knowledge gained > the recognition.

Could I build the knowledge over time? Sure. But I'm under 30 trying to build this thing, so I need as many tools as I can get in my belt and I don't have the luxury of time to acquire them when my firm wants to see production now.

Another way I look at it... It's never going to help me lose a client, but it might very well help me win one.

I started the process and learned that without clients it means nothing. I don't think you will be able to sit in your office as the phone rings off the hook because you are a CFP.
