They do. After being acquitted of murder in the Galveston case, Durst ended up pleading guilty as part of a plea deal to charges of evidence tampering and bond jumping. He was sentenced to five years with some credit for time served. Had to serve about three years after the trial. So, he knew he was dead to rights on the other charges and negotiated a plea on those. Prosecutors could have gone back and tried him for those offenses after the murder trial.
