Appreciate all of the tips. I got the Maui revealed book when we first decided to travel to Maui for our honeymoon. Like you said, awesome book that I'm consulting frequently as I finalize the itinerary.
However, I am still getting the driver for road to Hana. It will be so much more enjoyable to sit in the backseat with the top down and really get to enjoy the views...as opposed to white knuckling it around the turns and relying on the lady to be on the lookout for mile markers.
You only honeymoon once, right? (Ideally)
Plus we are using the same guy for our bike tour down the volcano to be our driver. We will get to know the driver and tell him where we want to stop (per Maui Revealed) in addition to any local haunts we might have missed.

It'll be fun, no doubt. I just fear you could see so much more if you drove yourself because (like several of us have said) the Hana Road is an adventure to be experienced. The fun of the Hana Road is driving on it and experiencing the wonderful sights along it at your own pace.
If the tour guide will stop at places that you specifically want to stop at (per Maui Revealed secrets), then it will be great.
However, if the tour guide is only taking you to places that he/she deems worthy, you'll miss out on the truly wondrous places along that highway.
