In Junior High I bought my girlfriend I just broke it off with a dozen roses and a Pink Ice necklace (only the finest) on Valentine's Day. She tried to give that sh!t back. I was crushed brah.
Then after college I bought my girlfriend some Shox and an LSU stethoscope (she was doing her final year in clinical rotation at LSU Vet School) along with some flowers and other sh!t. We broke it off shortly after.
Based on these two experiences I learned that grand gestures are a drain on the pocketbook and a bit of a crapshoot when you're single or merely dating.
My wife got a couple of pieces of jewelry the first two Christmases we were dating but the only thing she still wears I've bought her out of all that is a Citizen Eco Drive watch and her engagement/wedding ring.
Just get flowers. Buy a card. Write something you mean on it. Take her on a vacation or something.
Grand gestures are crap.
