+1 with Lamont Roland

we were actually a decent squad with him the year after Stro left. Then he tore his ACL and we only won 2 SEC games....but we were in almost every single game but ran out of gas with 5 minutes left...despite the record, I actually liked that team a lot because we played so hard every game. Moreso than I enjoyed last year's underachieving 9-win SEC team.

eta: just doing a little research from dandydon:

quote:

The Tigers would be decimated the following year (2000-2001) from NCAA sanctions that had occurred from the Lester Earl investigation. With only 5 healthy scholarship players for SEC play, the Tigers struggled all season and finished with a 13-16 overall and 2-14 conference record. Despite the poor record, the Tigers were able to upset #18 Georgia in the first round of the SEC tourney and had many other games that went down to the wire. LSU also upset #14 Ole Miss 78-77 in the PMAC regular season finale.

we only had 5 scholarship players but we could hang with anyone in the gym that year....Lamont would have undoubtedly given us a few more W's

What's so funny is many of the players listed as most under rated are highly thought of and actually over rated.

Based on what we did with him, then without it would have to be Lamont Roland. We were looking very good pre SEC, 9-1 with only a road loss to #1 Arizona, then a double digit lead against a really good Alabama team till he got hurt. We then lost that game and just about every one after.
