You are forgetting that they will sue in a court and someone will decide what they get. No matter how much you want to deny it, the judge will take into account JPSO's actions after
If the whole thing would've been squashed by JPSO doing the right thing quickly, they probably wouldn't have sued for so much. It is more of a perception thing. If the family perceives that they have gotten what is theirs (cop's job and a small settlement), they wouldn't have to now go after the parish and take more to prove a point.
If I were in their shoes, I would originally go after the cop's job + no money. If I couldn't have that, I'd go after the cop, parish, and lakeside for money. I'll take as much as I can get then. They've already paid out based on this douche cop's actions before. Allowing him to continue beating people = lots more money and shows negligence

I know the mom and family pretty well. I didn't know of her having a gambling problem.
I do know the sheriff's arse is against the wall and he is fighting for his job. And they have him in at least one Big arse Lie.

How exactly did you determine I forgot this? And where did you come up with that second sentence?
