Need a new router....possibly one of those modem/router combos. Anyone have one of those?

I dont know anything about them but guy at best buy said they are legit. Do you have experience with them?

They are usually fine as a modem but weak as a router. I mean if it's just you in a 700 square foot apartment with an iPhone and XBox, I'm sure it would be fine. But for normal household use, they'll just be frustrating.

Larger house with family using Internet non stop. Guess I'll pass on the combo.
Any suggestions for a router then? Looking to stay under $150

What's your ISP and download speed? Are you trying to get a new modem within that $150 as well? What kind of devices are in the house?

Most devices do not have the capability to use the AC standard. I would just get the best N router you can find. I went with the ASUS N66U. It has great range, dual bands (my HTC one does use the 5GHz as most new smartphones should) and a great firmware.
I have guest networks setup for the wifi home controls and for actual guests. It's capable of so much more and there is a custom firmware that I haven't tried called Merlin that many people recommend.

AirPort Extreme. Very easy to setup and extremely good signal reach with very little bandwidth drop off.

The guy over our Network Group has a N66U, he is the one that suggested the AC66U for a new one. N66U is solid.
