Towards the back but closer to the middle.
Pilot instinct is to nose up at the last second before landing. So in the case of a failed landing gear or water landing (which the pilot actually controls the aircraft to the ground) usually the nose will raise up causing it to strike tail first. This causes the front to slam down with more force. Where as towards the middle, where the rotation around the pitch axis is centered, the torque is substantially less and there's more of the planes structure to absorb and distribute it.
But if it's a different type of crash (e.g. mid air disintegration) it more or less doesn't matter as much. It's just luck of the draw then.
