The North Rim is much more forested and green, TONS of aspens. As another poster mentioned it's much less crowded. However, unless you are hiking to the bottom and back, IMO I would not suggest making the Grand Canyon your only destination if you are vacationing for a few days or more. I'd suggest you stay a night at one of the rims and spend the day checking out some of the trails. I've been to North Rim, and we incorporated this with a trip to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon Natl Park, and a stop in Page, AZ on the way there and saw Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Stayed a few nights at Zion, there is lots to do there. Bottom line is, GC is just awesome, but after a full day it's possible to see just about everything there is at the rim.

I'm going to the South Rim over spring break for the first time, and we're taking a day trip there from Sedona, where we're staying for 5 nights.
