I honestly couldn't tell you why some people put it on their cars or belt buckles. I personally don't sport it because I have no direct connection to cotton other than my shirts. I figured they were farmers or the same reason frat boys drive 4x4's to pose as hunters, farmers or good ole country boys. I grew up in south LA and have seen the cotton plates and buckles and never once thought they are referring to slavery.
ETA: people put DU, delta , yeti etc... For the reason they support or take part in that activity. So if I see cotton I think farmer or frat. John Deere. Same thing. I try not to dig to deep into things to find some reason that isn't there.
