In my 25 years of teaching I never weighted grades.
Each assignment was worth a certain number of points depending on big or small the assignment was. Grade= total points made vs possible

yeah, the failure is in the weighting, everything shouldn't be worth a 100 point grade. study guides and shite should be a max of 20 points or weighted 20% if they are graded 0 to 100
