been thinking about letting my place go - Louisiana's grand days of mallard limits from pit blinds is over...and getting worse each year.

I know guys that do a hunt in Kansas and one further up north...then maybe a local hunt or two....then call it a year.

Honestly, I have all but given up on duck hunting...it my favorite type of hunting to do, but I just can't spend enough time in the blind to make it worth the mega-bucks that it takes to do it nowdays... take a few guided hunts per year to knock the edge off and go on with your life....

This is my new plan. Piddle around here on public land, then head to Kansas for 3 days in late January to bust some mallards and canadas. I will be getting a 4 wheeler next week and that will open up quite a few more public options.

I've thought about taking a week in Canada and another in Kansas. I pay $5-6k/year for my lease. We have a lot of options, but when there are no ducks, there are no ducks. And I'm not in a position to up and go when the ducks are here. We have a good time and I enjoy the camp and the time with friends. That's the only thing keeping me in it. And the year round access to a couple of private lakes. If I was on a budget, no way in hell I'd spend the money I am. At least I get to expense it through my business. But for what I spend and as little as I've gotten to go the last couple of years, I could've done guided hunts and come out a few thousand ahead.
