Looks like the weather will be warm for the weekend. After all the cold weather this past week I'm not expecting much, but I'll probably go put out some pillow traps. Anyone else giving it a try?

Warm for a day wont mean anything if it's been in the 30s-40s the week before
You'll need a few consecutive days of temps around 60+ ideally

Spoken like a true commercial fisherman. And like i said, I know I won't catch much, but I've been bored since hunting season ended.

I was going to put out some traps Friday to help supplement what I catch in nets on Saturday so hopefully I would have enough to boil.

If you catch a pound, I'll be amazed. Save your bait till the end of march

Nah, I was thinking later when it warms up for a while but I have no idea where to go.

If you don't have a boat, you can take your kids to South Farm when it warms up.

I have a boat. What other options does that give me? (I mena besides just heading down a river and dropping nets on the bank)....Any spots known to be decent?

I know this sounds really general, but just go put your boat in the basin and look around. I'd recommend the Henderson side. If you put in at Kern's, there is good crawfishing close when it gets a little warmer. Look for shallow water and good vegetation. Lillys can be good if on shallow flats. It really can be as easy as setting traps along the bank of some back bayous up against the grass.
It make take you a couple times to find good spots, but it'll be a good experience with your kids and it'll show them how to do things the right way. Like everyone else said though, you need to wait until the weather is actually warm. A couple warm-ish days aren't going to do you much good.

Best wishes btw. Like they say, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work."

This thread got me thinking.
I planned on doing some yak fishin in the basin this spring and I've thought about crawfishin there before.
Would it be worth tossing some traps out in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon after fishing, or would they need to sit longer?
How many traps would probably be needed to just get a sack or two?
If so, what kind of traps would be best to use and transport via kayak? And lastly, does anyone have a rec on where to buy if this is not a waste of time?
TIA OB

I would think it'd be a pain in the arse to bring traps on a kayak. I know even the field pyramid traps we would use would take up a ton of room and if it's anything like field catch you'd need a couple dozen at least to catch a sack or two

It is a pain in the arse. The most you can take is 5 or 6 before heading back for more. I'll stick with deep water or ditch nets to fill sacks.
