This is what happens to me, I don't get in a big hurry with planting, fruit seems to come in the same time no matter what almost.

Same here. Plants that get planted early seem to get stunned and just sorta sit there. Now I just wait until around the first of April to plant. On the contrary I have a friend who plants some in elevated boxes and he usually starts getting ripe tomatoes two to three weeks before mine that are planted in the ground.
