If this teams continues to play itself out of the tourney, but gets there next year with Simmons and Blakeney, he will be a Paul Hewitt 2.0 in my mind...needing lottery picks to get to the tournament. That would still look like a letdown.

Think about that for a second. Jones might need THREE McDonalds All Americans on his roster (if Martin stays) just to get above .500 in SEC play, let alone a NCAAT berth!!!! How pathetic is that.

But hey, he's won the most games in his first two years of any LSU coach in history. Let's throw a fricking parade!!! The vast majority of those wins have come against horrible OOC schedules:

OOC SOS national rank

12-13 - 326
13-14 - 248
14-15 - 275

In SEC play he has finished no better than .500 and is well on his way to equaling that mark again this year in what is yet again, a relatively weak conference

LSU hired a career .500 coach. They're getting exactly what they hired.

I think equalling that mark this year is going to be very difficult.

We're 5-4 right now at the halfway point of the SEC schedule.

Here are the SEC records of the teams we've played so far:

5 wins:
Georgia 5-4
Florida 5-4
Ole Miss 6-3
Vanderbilt 2-7
South Carolina 2-7
Total: 20-25

4 losses:
Missouri 1-8
Texas A&M 6-3
Miss. St. 4-5
Auburn 3-6
Total: 14-22

Combined total: 34-47

Here are the SEC records of the teams we have left to play:

Alabama 4-5
Kentucky 9-0
Tennessee 5-4
Texas A&M 6-3
Florida 5-4
Auburn 3-6
Ole Miss 6-3
Tennessee 5-4
Arkansas 6-3

Total: 49-32

If we can only manage to go 5-4 against teams that have combined to go 34-47, I really don't see how we can expect to go 4-5 against teams that are a combined 49-32. It might happen, but it seems unlikely. It's very hard to find four reasonably expectable wins in that list of games remaining.
