$20k after taxes and benefits is closer to 12-13 I'd say. Factor in cutting your cars lifetime in half and maintenance cost increasing allow 200-300 a month incremental expense/depreciation and another 150 in gas. That's about $7k of added expense making your net raise $5-6k, or 135 bucks a pay period. Is that worth driving at least 2hrs a day versus 1, while also losing the flexibility of being nearby home for errands and unplanables? Break even point isn't so sexy then.
