re: Tom Brady is now alone as the greatest NFL QB ever

There was more parity in the NFC and better defenses all around back in the 80's. Also, the rules weren't as relaxed as they are for QBs now. Montana bounced back from two serious injuries, the latter a near career-ender that cemented Young's place and relegated him to Kansas City, where I might add he got the Chiefs into the AFC title game and one season later defeated his former 49ers teammates the year they won the big game with Steve Young at the helm.
People talk about talent, Montana and Brady each have a HOF coach.
Montana had HOF teammates in Ronnie Lott, Fred Dean the first part of his run, Jerry Rice and Steve Young the latter half. He also crushed two of the top five greats in Elway and Marino in the big game. And came from behind with the best 4th Quarter drive to win in Super Bowl history before Eli Manning's heroics.
When all is said and done, Brady will have played with HOFs in Tedy Bruschi, Ty Law, Randy Moss, Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, Adam Vinatieri, Vince Wolfork, Gronk, potentially Richard Seymour, Logan Mankins, Matt Light. The Salary Cap sure effected that stud defense, ay?
I will give Brady his due. He is number two for me ahead of Elway. For those of you born later than 1985, I will forgive your millennial judgment. Yes Brady owns all of the postseason records. It took him a couple extra seasons and a couple of extra Super Bowls to make that happen. Montana's Super Bowl stat line, in four games, will never be duplicated.
I think Brady is the most accomplished of his generation. If you want to say all-time, we'll have a word with Bart Starr who has more titles to his credit.
Did Brady define the game with his playing style? Not like the prototype Elway, or rocket arm Marino.
He is clutch. But so was Montana.
People call Montana a system QB. Well Brady has played in the same dink and dunk system as well. Apples and oranges.
I will take a guy who found success outside of his system after his career should've ended at the hands of the Giants in the 1990 NFC title game at Candlestick. Montana had no right having success in Kansas City, but he did.
What do I know? If you ask Montana, he always says Marino. If you ask anyone 30 or younger, they will say Brady. If you ask anyone older, you will have Elway, Marino, Favre, but nobody can deny Joe Cool.

There is easily more parity in the NFC and more parity in the NFL now then there was in the 80s. Free agency and cap restrictions have made it much more difficult for teams to remain on top for an extended period of time. Montana is definitely among the greatest who has ever played the game but he did have a lot of talent surrounding him, including the greatest player in NFL history (Jerry Rice).
Brady's success is more impressive when you consider he has only had one sure fire Hall of Famer playing alongside him on offense (Randy Moss).
