I don't mind letting my wife and kids live with me but I want a house that's big enough so that I never have to see them.

the size of homes has just about doubled in the past 40 years ... people want every kid to have their own room ... kids must have a playroom or their own tv room ... etc ... 2800 sq ft is huge for a family of 4, which is the average ...
leads to fewer family conversations/gatherings and a bigger mortgage ...
