I would say average high school miler but I agree with your point, if you've ever run a sub 5 minute mile no one can say much to you (I think 95% of men over 18 in this country couldn't even run a 75 sec quarter-mile).
For grown up non-competitive runners 1 mile under 6 minutes is really impressive and means you are probably in tremendous shape.

8-10 minutes if reasonably healthy.....
12 minute mile if you are a bit overweight
12 minute mile if you are a bit overweight
