Because I'm not spending 3k on something that might work. A 9 twist may work with 75 or 77 grain bullets but its not optimal or a given that it will work. Why couldn't they just go with the standard 8 twist or the military standard 7 twist?

Its the same reason I don't shoot a 9 twist 260, it may work or it may not. Why chance it when there are other manufacturers that have obviously taken the hint.

1/9 is the standard compared to 1/8 for civilian AR's. Why couldn't they? Because they know it works and does so with less fouling and less wear on the barrel. They know you aren't going to be shooting tracer ammo which is why the military has 1/7 twist instead of 1/9 that was originally suggested by the USMC for what would become the A2 version of the M16.
