quote:Jeez. The "excuse" is a perfect storm of inexperienced players in skill positions, crippling the passing game. Harris is physically more gifted than Jennings, but was lost in the playbook; that much we all pretty much accept.
Now, I'll acknowledge that the O Cam WANTS to run may be complex, but the stuff we saw this year wasn't complex at all. Anybody arguing otherwise is just searching really hard for another excuse.
Keep in mind the WRs didn't help the situation. Dural was the only guy with ANY experience, and he was coming off a 7 catch season. Note- the ONLY guy. There were no juniors or seniors at all, no experienced backups who could help out with knowledge in the huddle, if not as a primary target. Diarse, a redshirt freshman, was literally the 2nd most experienced WR we had.
It takes time to transition to new players; look at the Saints. Cooks was their 1st rd pick, but you still saw Brees throwing more to an aging Colston or an injured Graham early on, while Cooks was learning what to do. Had there been all new players with no vets, it would have been a mess.
