I've skimmed this thread and the bottom line is you just don't get it. I had a blast as a kid going to the parades and catching stuff; enjoyed even more in college while drunk making out with some girl I didn't know. I've been riding since 2007 and love it. Yes, I'm one of those 40 something's now and I act a fool to a point. The thing is without us 40 something's and the guy's that are older than that; there would be no Mardis Gras. How many of your friends can afford the thousands of dollars of throws much less the million dollar floats. This might almost sound like it needs to be on the Poly Board but us older guys pay for everyone else to have a good time at Mardis Gras. Hail Endymion PB-A

You do understand that this is similar to saying "my family had cable and internet in the trailer park and everyone else in the park considered us to be wealthy".
