We could use a dt with his size and athleticism, do we have a chance at all?

Right after signing day in Feburary in 2014, LSU & USC were thought to be Beckner's top two schools.
With LSU's recent success in signing some of Illinois' top prospects in consecutive years (Pocic & Garrett) combined with a need at DL, there was reason for optimism.
Then something happened along the way (or somebody dropped the ball) and by Fall, Mizzou & tOSU were his favorites.

Our signees were from Chicago though, they never had an impact on Beckner. Mizzou stayed on him hard, and can also sell dl success. Plus mizzou is about 2 hours from him and his teammate is going there.

A small update that may change Beckner's recruitment, even though he isn't considering us any longer:

Strong is Beckner's teammate at East St Louis that was helping recruit him to Mizzou.

The three pledges give Mizzou 18 verbal commitments, though East St. Louis running back Natereace Strong has already enrolled at Hinds, Miss., Community College and hopes to be academically eligible to enroll at Mizzou in 2016, East St. Louis coach Darren Sunkett told CBS 920 AM last week.

Missouri still has to be the favorite but FSU and OSU are the ones to watch especially OSU. We aren't a player.
