On another forum site one of the guys on there, who is an A&M alum and fan, keeps trying to tell me that LSU declines next year while A&M will be a competitor in the SEC west.

I've seen mixed opinions on this board obviously, but if Mills and Hawkins for sure come back and help lead this young team I find it hard to believe that it declines, and if there is even remotely decent QB play I think the Tigers can be legit contenders....So am I just totally insane in thinking this?

That is the million dollar question, if we have it we will be fine, if we don't look at a repeat of 2014

aTm should be better on D. How can they be worse? So the fact that they were young and Chief helping improve them should automatically make them a better defensive team, which shoudl make them better overall as long as the offense doesn't stall.

does that make them true contenders in the West? Not sure about hem being better than LSU, AUburn, AL, etc.

Here's the rub though, LSU's offense will be better than this year....the defense will be as good or better with better DL play and beck in the middle.

No way they should be considered better than LSU at this point! Don't forget, that locker room was not in good shape at the end of the year....one early or bad loss and things could get ugly down there real quick. There are some strong ,not so good personalities floating around there.

a&m think they found the savior in chief. Scheme doesn't matter if the players are not in place. Garrett is good, but I see no other playmakers on D. Maybe they get Daylon Mack, but they still need help.

Interesting take. Agree with a lot of it.
