Under or flip over. Just to one side, the cars are usually not high enough to flip over it, and on the other side, the suspension is coming up from the car basically bouncing out of the ditch and hitting the up slope on the side with the cables.

Hopefully that explains it a little more. It works in my mind


Eta: the short and sweet of it has to do with cars either flipping over it or driving under/over it
