If you use a propane torch on a painted pit, it will burn the paint off, not sure about what it would do to a weber. If you have a ceramic pit, a propane torch is the way to go.

I use MAPP gas with a weed killer torch handle to light charcoal in my Green Egg. Burns significantly hotter than propane, gets things going quickly.
