Really nice and wealthy suburbs. The metro area is in very good shape. The core city was destroyed by white flight, loss of factory jobs in the city, poorly run city government, unions, pensions......

My Dad made frequent business trips to Detroit back in the 60s and 70s. I remember him saying that the inner city was in decline at that time.

Oddly enough, Detroit still has nicer suburbs than most southern cities. Certainly more so than BR.
